In 1972, when a
foresighted Tom Fahmie purchased a young Data Processing company (for
$10,500 and a used Chevrolet from his automobile dealership), data entry
was simply that. Twenty-five operators punched computer
cards from raw data. CDP helped the Girl Scouts of America keep tabs
on cookie sales and NYC hired CDP to keep track of every child in the
public school system. Government agencies, municipalities, insurance
companies and large commercial operations kept CDP operators busy punching
in inventory, sales, labor distribution, insurance statistics, subscriptions,
etc.
In 1984 CDP purchased
a data center. The new sophisticated computer system enabled us to manage
large databases.
In the 1980s many
companies began to manage their Data
Processing in-house, utilizing powerful mainframes. But, as the
decade closed, the expenses of keeping up with ever-evolving technologies
(particularly in data and image capture), maintaining dedicated space
and personnel, and processing a dramatically increased volume of information,
raised questions about the economic suitability of in-house data processing.
As a result, the 1990s saw a tremendous resurgence in outsourcing.
CDP has kept pace
and moved forward. Our clients' ever-changing needs have supplied the
impetus -- providing us with new challenges and pushing us in new directions.
In August, 1996,
we purchased an offshore
Data Capture company in Barbados in response to client requests
for offshore services. We chose Barbados because it affords us a highly-skilled,
English speaking and English educated labor force at a cost much lower
than in the States. This enables us to be competitive without sacrificing
the quality and accuracy our clients have come to expect from CDP.
In 1998, CDP acquired
Eastern Mail & Data Processing, Inc. (EMDP) located in Medford,
NY. Leveraging the capabilities of both sites allows customers to benefit
from increased data capture capacity and expanded services.
